Dumbbell Push-Ups
Introduction: Dumbbell push-ups are an excellent variation of the classic push-up. Using dumbbells increases the intensity of the exercise and improves upper-body stability and strength.
Execution: Begin in a plank position with a dumbbell in each hand. Make sure the dumbbells are firmly and stably positioned on the floor. Your hands should be directly beneath your shoulders. Engage your core and keep your back straight. Lower your body by bending your elbows until your chest almost touches the floor. Then push yourself powerfully back up to the starting position.
Primary Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the chest muscles (pectoralis major), triceps, and anterior shoulder muscles (anterior deltoids). The core muscles are also trained for stability.
Benefits: Dumbbell push-ups help build greater strength and stability in your arms and shoulders. Using dumbbells also provides a greater range of motion, resulting in more intense chest-muscle training.
Common Mistakes: A common mistake is not fully extending the arms at the top of the movement. Make sure you complete every repetition fully for maximum effectiveness. Also ensure that you do not let your back sag; keep your body straight throughout the exercise.
Possible Alternatives: If the standard dumbbell push-up is too challenging, you can start with push-ups without weights or with your knees on the floor. For an extra challenge, you can wear a weighted vest or place the dumbbells on an elevated platform to increase the difficulty.
