Execution

  1. 1
Begin by placing a bench in a flat position. Hold a dumbbell in each hand and lie on the bench with your feet firmly on the floor.
  2. 2
Press the dumbbells up over your chest with your arms extended, so they nearly touch each other. This is your starting position.
  3. 3
Slowly lower one dumbbell toward your chest by bending your elbow while keeping the other arm extended.
  4. 4
Press the dumbbell back to the starting position and repeat the movement with the other arm.
  5. 5
Alternate between both arms for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves muscle balance and symmetry between both sides of the body.
  • Increases the stability of the shoulder joints.
  • Stimulates the core muscles by maintaining balance during the exercise.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering or pressing the weights too quickly. Focus on a controlled movement.
  • ! Lifting the back too far off the bench. Keep your back flat against the bench throughout the exercise.
  • ! Using weights that are too heavy, causing your technique to deteriorate. Start with lighter weights and increase gradually.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily trains the pectoral muscles (pectoralis major), while the triceps, shoulders (deltoids), and, to a lesser extent, the back muscles are also activated for stabilization.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can use an incline bench to place more emphasis on the upper chest muscles.
  • For beginners or for variety, try the exercise with a stability ball instead of a bench to activate the core muscles more.
  • Use resistance bands instead of dumbbells for a different form of resistance.
