Cobra Full Push-Up

The Cobra Full Push-Up is a dynamic exercise that not only strengthens your upper body but also improves your flexibility and stability. This variation of the traditional push-up adds an extra dimension by emphasizing the back muscles and shoulders while also training the chest and triceps.

Execution

  1. 1
Begin in the standard push-up position with your hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Lower your body toward the floor as you would in a normal push-up, but keep your elbows close to your body.
  3. 3
Once your chest nearly touches the floor, arch your back by pushing your upper body forward and upward while keeping your hips and legs on the floor. Your body now forms the shape of a cobra.
  4. 4
Hold this position briefly, then return to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Improves upper-body strength and stability.
  • Increases spinal flexibility and strengthens the lower back.
  • Helps develop better posture.
  • Burns calories through a combination of strength and movement exercises.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Keeping the hips too high or too low: Make sure your body forms a straight line from your head to your heels.
  • ! Pushing the elbows too far away from the body: This can lead to unnecessary strain on the shoulders.
  • ! Not fully arching the back: To get the most out of the cobra position, it is important to create a good arch in the back.

Primary Muscles

The Cobra Full Push-Up primarily targets the chest muscles, triceps, deltoids (shoulders), and muscles in the lower back. The abdominal and gluteal muscles are also activated to stabilize the body during the exercise.

Possible Alternatives

  • For beginners: Start with a half Cobra Push-Up while keeping your knees on the floor.
  • To increase the intensity: Add a leg lift to each push-up to train the glutes and lower back extra.
  • As a variation: Try the Spiderman Push-Up, bringing one knee toward your elbow during the exercise.
