Clock Push-Up
The Clock Push-Up is a dynamic variation of the traditional push-up that challenges not only your chest muscles but also engages your shoulders, triceps, and core in a unique way. By placing your hands in different positions, as if indicating the numbers on a clock, each push-up becomes a new challenge that provides a varied and effective workout.
Execution
-
1
Begin in a standard push-up position with your hands under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels.
-
2
Move your right hand to the position corresponding to 12 o'clock and your left hand to 6 o'clock. Perform a push-up.
-
3
Return to the starting position, then move your right hand to 3 o'clock while keeping your left hand at 6 o'clock. Perform another push-up.
-
4
Alternate your hand positions by moving around the clock. Make sure to work both sides for a balanced workout.
Benefits
The Clock Push-Up offers a unique combination of strength and stability training. It helps improve muscle definition, increases shoulder stability, and strengthens the core. In addition, the variation in hand positions provides a challenging and varied workout that can help you break through a training plateau.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving too quickly: Focus on the quality of each push-up rather than the quantity. A slower execution results in greater muscle activation.
- ! Letting the hips sag: Keep your body in a straight line to engage your core and prevent back pain.
- ! Flaring the elbows too far: Keep your elbows at an angle of approximately 45 degrees relative to your body to protect your shoulders.
Targeted Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the chest muscles (pectoralis major), shoulders (deltoids), triceps, and the muscles in your core, including the rectus abdominis and obliques.
Possible Alternatives
If the Clock Push-Up is too challenging, you can start with knee push-ups to build strength. For an extra challenge, you can wear a weighted vest or place your feet on an elevated surface. Other variations include the Spiderman Push-Up or the Diamond Push-Up to adjust the intensity and focus on specific muscle groups.
