Benefits

  • Improves the strength and definition of the chest muscles.
  • Increases shoulder stability and flexibility.
  • Helps develop better posture by strengthening the muscles around the upper back and shoulders.
  • Can be performed anywhere and anytime without the need for equipment.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Make sure your movements are controlled and deliberate to get the most out of the exercise.
  • ! Bending too far: It is important not to bend too far to prevent overloading the lower back.
  • ! Not fully extending the arms: Make sure your arms are fully extended during the exercise to use the full range of motion.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the chest muscles (pectoralis major and minor), but also trains the deltoids (shoulders), triceps, and to a lesser extent the abdominal muscles and the muscles in your lower back.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can hold a light dumbbell or another weight in the hand that moves over your head.
  • For lower intensity or if you are new to the exercise, you can make the movement smaller by not leaning all the way over.
  • Another variation is to perform the exercise seated on a chair, which provides additional stability.
