Dumbbell Seated Reverse-Grip Concentration Curl
The Dumbbell Seated Reverse-Grip Concentration Curl is an effective exercise for strengthening and shaping your biceps. This variation of the traditional concentration curl emphasizes the forearms and biceps in a unique way thanks to the reverse grip.
Execution
-
1
Find a comfortable seated position on a bench and hold a dumbbell with an underhand grip (palm facing upward).
-
2
Place your elbow against the inside of your thigh, just above your knee. Keep your back straight.
-
3
Inhale and slowly lower the dumbbell until your arm is almost fully extended.
-
4
Exhale as you bring the dumbbell upward to the starting position, focusing on contracting your biceps.
-
5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch arms.
Benefits
- Improves biceps isolation for greater focus and muscle growth.
- Strengthens the grip and forearms through the reverse grip.
- May help improve symmetry between the left and right biceps.
Common Mistakes
- ! Performing the exercise too quickly, which can lead to less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injury.
- ! Using too much weight, which causes technique to deteriorate.
- ! Not fully extending or bending the arm during the exercise.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the biceps brachii, with secondary involvement of the brachialis and brachioradialis in the forearm.
Possible Alternatives
- For beginners: Use lighter weights or use the traditional grip for an easier execution.
- For advanced trainees: Increase the intensity by performing slower repetitions or pausing at the point of maximum contraction.
- Alternative exercises such as the hammer curl or preacher curl can also be used for variety and to emphasize different parts of the biceps.
