  4. 4
Roll your shoulders back and open your chest as much as possible.
  5. 5
Keep your hips stable and your legs active. Look upward or backward, depending on your flexibility.
  6. 6
Remain in this pose for up to five breaths, then slowly release.

Benefits

King Cobra Pose improves spinal flexibility, strengthens the back muscles, opens the chest and shoulders, and may help relieve stress and fatigue. It is also known to aid digestion.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving into the pose too quickly, which can lead to overloading the back.
  • ! Not keeping the hips on the floor, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Not warming up sufficiently before the exercise, which increases the risk of injury.

Key Muscles

This exercise targets the back muscles, particularly the erector spinae that runs along your spine. The shoulders, triceps, and chest muscles are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

If King Cobra Pose is too challenging, try Cobra Pose or Upward-Facing Dog as gentler alternatives. To increase the intensity, you can try lifting your legs off the floor and holding them in the air during the pose.
