The Blood Type Diet: Does It Really Work?
One of the notable diets that has gained some popularity is the blood type diet. How Does the Blood Type Diet Work?
The blood type diet assumes that each blood type can tolerate certain foods well, tolerate some foods neutrally, and tolerate some foods poorly. According to this diet, consuming foods that do not match your blood type could trigger a defense mechanism, which could have effects on your overall health as well as your body composition and fat mass. Conversely, this diet assumes that the beneficial and neutral foods would strengthen your body and boost your immune system, resulting in weight loss. This means that you should tailor your diet to your blood type. This diet distinguishes between 4 different blood types: blood types O, A, B, and AB. The big question is, does everyone know their blood type?
Blood Type O
The oldest and most common blood type is O. People with this blood type historically tolerate meat better. This means that steak, beef, lamb, pork, and chicken are all well-suited for the diet of type O individuals. It should be noted that fish is also recommended. This blood type may not tolerate carbohydrates well, so items like wheat, white beans, and cauliflower should be avoided.
Blood Type A
In contrast to blood type O, people with blood type A should avoid meat as much as possible. This means that they often function better when they become vegetarians. However, this does not apply to fish, which is harmless, as well as carbohydrates. Therefore, the menu should mainly consist of salmon, mackerel, broccoli, cauliflower, and various meat substitutes such as soy.
Blood Type B
The third blood type can best combine the characteristics of blood types A and O. This blood type can tolerate vegetables, meat, and grains well. Additionally, this blood type is the only one that does not suffer from dairy and milk. However, they may have difficulty digesting carbohydrates from corn, various types of peanuts, and wheat. Therefore, they should primarily avoid bread.
Blood Type AB
The last blood type struggles with the combination of bread and meat and should avoid this combination when trying to lose weight. However, the AB group can tolerate lamb, fish, dairy, various types of peanuts, rice, and vegetables.
