Execution

  1. 1
Set the cable machines to shoulder height and select a suitable weight.
  2. 2
Stand in the middle of the crossover machine facing the machine.
  3. 3
Grasp the left handle with your right hand and the right handle with your left hand. The cables are now crossed in front of you.
  4. 4
Step slightly forward so that the cables are under tension and bend your knees slightly.
  5. 5
Inhale and pull the handles outward and backward while bringing your shoulder blades together.
  6. 6
Hold this position briefly, then return to the starting position in a controlled manner.
  7. 7
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves posture by strengthening the upper back and shoulders.
  • Helps prevent shoulder injuries by improving stability.
  • Improves definition in the rear shoulders and upper back.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, causing your form to break down. Start light and focus on proper execution.
  • ! Bending the elbows too much during the exercise. Try to keep your arms relatively straight.
  • ! Not bringing your shoulder blades together at the end of the movement.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the posterior deltoids (back of the shoulders), rhomboids, and trapezius (upper back).

Possible Alternatives

  • Reverse Dumbbell Fly: For when you do not have access to a crossover machine.
  • Face Pulls: An alternative that also trains the posterior deltoids and upper-back muscles, but at a slightly different angle.
  • Adjust the height of the cables for variation in muscle activation.
