Execution

  1. 1
Stand with your feet hip-width apart and hold a dumbbell in each hand with an underhand grip (palms facing you).

  4. 4
Exhale and pull the dumbbells toward your hips while keeping your elbows close to your body.
  5. 5
Pause briefly at the top and squeeze your shoulder blades together.
  6. 6
Inhale and slowly and controllably lower the dumbbells back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Improves the strength and definition of the back and biceps.
  • Helps improve posture by strengthening the back muscles.
  • May help reduce back pain by strengthening the supporting muscles around the spine.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Rounded back: Make sure your back stays straight throughout the exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Lowering too quickly: Lower the weights in a controlled manner to maintain maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Weights that are too heavy: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form before using heavier weights.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, and trapezius in the back, as well as the biceps and forearm muscles.

Possible Alternatives

  • Use a cable machine instead of dumbbells for constant resistance throughout the movement.
  • Try the one-arm dumbbell row for greater focus on each side of your back individually.
  • Increase the intensity by varying the inclination of your torso.
