Execution

  1. 1
Begin standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at your sides.
  2. 2
Slowly bend your knees while pushing your hips back as if sitting in a chair, keeping your back straight and chest up.
  3. 3
Once you are in the squat position, hold it and perform a bicep curl by lifting the dumbbells toward your shoulders while keeping your elbows close to your body.
  4. 4
Slowly lower the dumbbells and return to the standing position.
  5. 5
Repeat this combination for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

The Squat Bicep Curl helps build strength and muscle mass in both the legs and arms. It also improves coordination and balance while increasing metabolic rate through the combination of a compound and isolation movement.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Squatting or standing up too quickly, which can lead to a loss of control and less effective muscle activation.
  • ! Allowing the elbows to move during the bicep curl, which can shift emphasis away from the biceps.
  • ! Not squatting deeply enough, which reduces the exercise's effectiveness for the lower-body muscles.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and biceps. The core muscles are also engaged for stability during execution.

Possible Alternatives

To increase the intensity, you can use a resistance band around your legs during the squat or opt for heavier weights during the curls. For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by using lighter weights or combining a bodyweight squat with a bicep curl.
