Ski squat
Would you like an exercise that helps strengthen your legs and glutes while also improving your balance and stability? Try the Ski Squat. This variation of the traditional squat simulates a skier's stance and is ideal for building strength in the lower-body muscles.
Execution:
- Stand with your feet close together, approximately shoulder-width apart.
- Extend your arms in front of you for balance.
- Slowly bend your knees as if sitting down on a chair. Keep your back straight and chest up.
- Make sure your knees do not extend past your toes.
- Push yourself back up to the starting position by pressing your heels into the floor.
- Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.
Primary Muscles:
- Quadriceps (front of the thighs)
- Hamstrings (back of the thighs)
- Gluteus maximus (glutes)
- Calves
Benefits:
- Improves the strength and definition of the lower-body muscles.
- Increases stability and balance, which is useful for winter sports.
- Helps burn calories and may contribute to weight loss.
Common Mistakes:
- Leaning too far forward with your upper body, which can put pressure on your lower back.
- Allowing your knees to collapse too far inward or outward.
- Not lowering deeply enough, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
Possible Alternatives:
- To increase the intensity, you can hold weights during the exercise.
- If you find the exercise too difficult, try widening your stance for greater stability.
- Use a fitness ball against the wall for support during the squat.
