Simon Deadlift High Pull
The Simon deadlift high pull is a dynamic compound exercise that develops strength and explosiveness in both your upper and lower body. It combines a deadlift with a high pull, engaging multiple muscle groups simultaneously and improving your coordination.
Execution:
- Begin with your feet hip-width apart and a barbell on the floor in front of your feet.
- Bend your knees slightly and keep your back straight while gripping the barbell with an overhand grip.
- Take a deep breath and lift the barbell by extending your hips and knees.
- Once the barbell passes your knees, explosively pull it upward toward your chin, keeping your elbows high and out to the sides.
- Lower the barbell back to the starting position under control.
Primary Muscles:
- Hamstrings
- Quadriceps
- Glutes
- Trapezius
- Deltoids
- Forearm muscles
Benefits:
- Improves overall body strength.
- Increases explosive strength, which is useful for athletic performance.
- Helps burn calories due to the intensity of the exercise.
- Improves grip strength by holding the barbell.
Common Mistakes:
- Do not round your back during the exercise to prevent injuries.
- Do not pull the barbell up with your arms; the power should come from your hips and legs.
- Make sure your elbows are higher than your wrists during the high pull.
Possible Alternatives:
- If the barbell is too heavy, first try the movement with a lighter bar or even a broomstick to master the technique.
- Use kettlebells or dumbbells for a different grip and variation of the exercise.
- To reduce the intensity, perform the deadlift and the high pull as two separate exercises.
