The Medicine Ball Clean is a dynamic exercise that combines strength, speed, and coordination. It is a full-body exercise primarily focused on explosive power and improving your ability to move weight from the ground to overhead.

Execution:

  1. Start with the medicine ball between your feet, which are shoulder-width apart.
  2. Bend your knees and hips to pick up the ball, keeping your back straight and chest up.
  3. Pull the ball upward by extending your hips and rising onto your toes, while keeping your elbows high and out to the sides.
  4. Once the ball reaches chest height, quickly drop under the ball by bending your knees and catch it at shoulder height while in a squat position.
  5. Stand up from the squat position while holding the ball on your shoulders.
  6. Lower the ball back to the ground and repeat the movement.

Main Muscles:

  • Quadriceps
  • Hamstrings
  • Gluteus (gluteal muscles)
  • Core (abdominal and back muscles)
  • Deltoids (shoulder muscles)
  • Triceps

Benefits:

  • Improves explosive power and speed.
  • Increases coordination and athletic ability.
  • Stimulates fat burning through its high intensity.
  • Strengthens core stability.

Common Mistakes:

  • Rounding your back while lifting the ball.
  • Pulling the ball up with your arms instead of your hips.
  • Not fully extending your hips before dropping under the ball.
  • Keeping your elbows too low when catching the ball.

Possible Alternatives:

  • Use a lighter or heavier medicine ball to adjust the intensity.
  • Perform the exercise without the squat to focus more on the pulling motion.
  • Add a pressing movement after catching the ball to train the shoulders more.
