Bodyweight Sumo Squat

  • Bodyweight Sumo Squat
  • Bodyweight Sumo Squat

Introduction: The Bodyweight Sumo Squat is an effective strength exercise that targets the lower-body muscles. This variation of the traditional squat uses a wider stance, providing a more intense workout for the inner thighs and glutes.

Execution: Begin with your feet wider than shoulder-width apart and your toes turned slightly outward. Keep your back straight and your chest lifted. Slowly lower your hips as if sitting in a chair, while keeping your knees aligned with your feet. Make sure your knees do not extend past your toes. Continue until your thighs are parallel to the floor, then powerfully return to the starting position.

Key Muscles: This exercise primarily trains your quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and adductors (inner thighs).

Benefits: The Sumo Squat not only helps build muscle mass and strength in your legs and glutes, but also improves your posture and stability. In addition, it may help burn calories and improve your overall body balance.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is leaning the upper body too far forward, which can place pressure on the lower back. Make sure your back remains straight and focus on lowering through your hips. Another mistake is not squatting deeply enough, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.

Possible Alternatives: To increase the intensity, you can hold a dumbbell or kettlebell while performing the exercise. For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by squatting less deeply or using support, such as holding onto a chair or rack for balance.
