Execution

  1. 1
Find a bench or stable surface that is approximately knee height.
  2. 2
Stand with your back to the bench and place the top of your left foot on the bench behind you.
  3. 3
Make sure your right foot is far enough forward so that when you lower yourself, your knee does not move past your toes.
  4. 4
Slowly lower your body by bending your hips and lowering your right knee toward the ground. Keep your upper body upright and your core tight.
  5. 5
Push yourself back to the starting position using the strength of your right leg.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch legs.

Benefits

The Bench Bulgarian Split Squat helps improve symmetry between your legs, increases lower-body stability, and improves hip-flexor flexibility. It is also an excellent exercise for building muscle strength and improving overall balance.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Leaning too far forward: This can cause unnecessary strain on your back and knees. Keep your upper body upright.
  • ! Stepping too far forward: This can cause your knee to move past your toes, which may lead to knee injuries.
  • ! Not lowering deep enough: To get the most out of the exercise, try to lower your hips as far down as possible.

Important Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteus maximus of the front leg, but the hamstrings and calf muscles are also trained. In addition, core strength is improved through the balance required to perform the exercise.

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the exercise, consider adding weights such as dumbbells or a kettlebell. For beginners, reducing the height of the bench or omitting it entirely can help make the exercise more accessible.
