Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on a mat, with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
  2. 2
Place your hands beside your body with your palms facing down.
  3. 3
Lift your shoulders slightly off the floor into a crunch position.
  4. 4
Reach toward your right heel with your right hand by rotating your torso to the right. Make sure your shoulder blades remain off the floor.
  5. 5
Return to the center and repeat the movement with your left hand toward your left heel.
  6. 6
Continue alternating between right and left for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthening the core and improving stability.
  • Increased flexibility and range of motion in the waist.
  • Improved coordination and balance.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving too quickly: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than speed.
  • ! Not rotating fully: Make sure you actually reach toward your heels to maximally activate the obliques.
  • ! Relaxing the shoulders too much: Keep your shoulders off the floor to maintain tension in your abdominal muscles.

Primary Muscles

The primary focus of Heel Touches is the obliques. The rectus abdominis and deep core muscles are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can hold a small weight in each hand while performing the movement.
  • For beginners, the movement can be simplified by keeping the shoulders on the floor and moving only the arms.
  • Another variation is to perform the exercise with your legs in the air for an additional challenge to the lower abdominal muscles.
