  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch sides.

Benefits

  • Improves upper-back and shoulder strength and stability.
  • Helps correct postural imbalances and prevents back pain.
  • Increases functional strength that is useful for lifting objects in daily life.
  • Stimulates muscle growth and improves the aesthetics of the upper back.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lifting too much weight: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries. Start light and gradually increase the weight.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back remains straight throughout the exercise to ensure maximum muscle activation and prevent injuries.
  • ! Moving your elbow too far away from your body: This reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and can lead to shoulder problems.

Primary Muscles

The Dumbbell Row primarily trains the latissimus dorsi (lats), rhomboids (diamond-shaped muscles between your shoulder blades), and trapezius (traps). The biceps and the muscles around the shoulder blades are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Seated Row: For those who want to emphasize the mid-back and place less stress on the lower back.
  • Barbell Row: For training the same muscle groups with a different type of resistance.
  • Single-Arm Cable Row: Provides constant tension on the muscles and is a good alternative for those with access to a cable machine.
