Keep your back straight and chest up, and lift the barbell by driving your hips forward and straightening your legs.
  4. 4
Lower the barbell to the floor in a controlled manner by pushing your hips back and slightly bending your knees. Keep your back straight throughout the entire movement.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves lower-body strength and stability.
  • Helps develop better posture and back health.
  • Increases flexibility in the hamstrings and hips.
  • Stimulates muscle growth by engaging a wide range of muscle groups.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Rounded back: Make sure your back remains straight throughout the entire exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Reaching too far: Keep the barbell close to your body to maximize the exercise's effectiveness and minimize tension on your lower back.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Perform the movement in a controlled manner to train the muscles effectively and prevent injuries.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the hamstrings, gluteus maximus (glutes), and lower back. The quadriceps and adductors (inner thighs) are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the barbell sumo Romanian deadlift is too challenging, try the traditional Romanian deadlift with a narrower foot stance.
  • For an extra challenge, add resistance bands around your knees to increase gluteus maximus activation.
  • Use dumbbells instead of a barbell for a variation that requires more stability.
