Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back on an exercise mat with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor. Make sure your feet are hip-width apart.
  2. 2
Press your heels into the floor and lift your hips toward the ceiling until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
  3. 3
When you reach the top of the hip lift, move your knees apart by moving your legs out to the sides without letting your hips drop.
  4. 4
Bring your legs back together, then slowly lower your hips to the starting position.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

Combining a hip lift with an abduction movement not only results in stronger and firmer glutes but also improves your posture and balance. It is an excellent exercise for preventing injuries by strengthening the muscles around your hips and lower back.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movements too quickly. Focus on a slow, controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Not lifting your hips all the way up. Make sure your body forms a straight line at the highest point.
  • ! Letting your knees fall too far apart during the abduction. This can lead to excessive strain on your hips.

Key Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and minimus, and the muscles in your hips. Your hamstrings and core muscles are also engaged for stability.

Possible Alternatives

To adjust the intensity of the exercise, you can place resistance bands around your thighs during the hip lift and abduction. This adds extra resistance, causing your muscles to work harder. Another alternative is performing the exercise on one leg, which increases the challenge and focus on stability.
