Dumbbell Hip Thrust
The Dumbbell Hip Thrust is an effective exercise for strengthening and building your glutes. This exercise also helps improve hip mobility and may contribute to better posture and reduced back pain.
Benefits
- Strengthening and building the glutes.
- Improving hip mobility.
- Helping reduce back pain.
- Improved core stability.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving up and down too quickly: use a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
- ! Arching your back too much: keep your back straight to prevent injuries and train the correct muscles.
- ! Not pushing your hips fully upward: make sure your body forms a straight line at the highest point.
Instructions
- Find a flat bench and place a dumbbell next to the bench.
- Lean your upper back against the bench and place the dumbbell on your hips.
- Keep your feet flat on the floor and approximately shoulder-width apart.
- Drive your hips upward by contracting your glutes until your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees.
- Hold this position briefly, then slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.
Primary Muscles
The primary muscle group trained with the Dumbbell Hip Thrust is the gluteus maximus (glutes). The hamstrings and lower back are also worked secondarily.
Possible Alternatives
- Barbell Hip Thrust for more weight and intensity.
- Single-leg Dumbbell Hip Thrust to increase the difficulty and train each glute individually.
- Glute Bridge as a lighter variation without additional weights.
