Execution

  1. 1
Find a flat bench and sit with your shoulder blades against the edge of the bench while placing a dumbbell on your hips.
  2. 2
Place your feet flat on the floor, approximately shoulder-width apart.
  3. 3
Push yourself upward by driving your heels into the floor and lifting your hips toward the ceiling. Make sure your body forms a straight line from your shoulders to your knees at the top.
  4. 4
Hold this position briefly, then slowly lower your hips back to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Improves the strength and shape of your glutes.
  • Helps improve posture by strengthening the lower back.
  • May contribute to better performance in other exercises and sports.
  • Increases metabolic rate through the involvement of large muscle groups.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Not fully extending the hips at the top of the movement.
  • ! Placing too much pressure on the neck or shoulders instead of the hips.
  • ! Not keeping the dumbbell stable, which can lead to imbalance and injury.

Key Muscles

The dumbbell hip thrust primarily targets the gluteus maximus (glutes), but also trains the hamstrings and lower back. It is an excellent exercise for building strength and mass in the lower-body muscles.

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity of the dumbbell hip thrust, you can consider:

  • Performing the exercise without weight for beginners or as part of a warm-up.
  • Increasing the dumbbell weight for a greater challenge.
  • Switching to a barbell hip thrust for a different variation and to allow more weight to be added.
