Dumbbell Frog Pumps

Want to train your glutes in a unique way? Try Dumbbell Frog Pumps. This exercise is a variation of the well-known glute bridge, but the specific position of your legs places more emphasis on the inner part of your glutes.

Benefits

Dumbbell Frog Pumps are particularly effective for strengthening and toning your glutes. They also help improve your hip mobility and may contribute to better posture and fewer back complaints.

Common Mistakes

A common mistake is lifting the hips too high, causing the back to overextend. Focus on contracting your glutes without straining your lower back. Also make sure the dumbbell remains properly positioned and does not roll off your abdomen.

Execution

Lie on your back with a dumbbell placed on your lower abdomen. Place your feet together with your knees pointing outward, similar to a frog position. Press your hands into the floor beside you for stability. Lift your hips by contracting your glutes and press the dumbbell upward. Keep your back straight and make the movement from your hips. Slowly lower your hips again and repeat.

Important Muscles

The primary focus is on the gluteus maximus, the largest glute muscle. The hamstrings and core are also trained lightly.

Possible Alternatives

If the exercise is too intense, you can start without a dumbbell. For more of a challenge, you can use a heavier dumbbell or switch to a barbell. Another variation is performing the exercise with one leg, while keeping the other leg extended on the floor.
