Execution

  1. 1
Start on your hands and knees with your hands directly under your shoulders and your knees under your hips.
  2. 2
Make sure your back is straight and your abdominal muscles are engaged.
  3. 3
Inhale and lift one leg, keeping your knee bent, and push your foot toward the ceiling as if you wanted to leave a footprint.
  4. 4
Make sure your hips remain parallel to the floor and do not rotate them open.
  5. 5
Slowly lower your leg back to the starting position.
  6. 6
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions, then switch legs.

Benefits

  • Strengthening and shaping the glutes.
  • Improving overall body posture.
  • Supporting the lower back and reducing back pain.
  • Increased performance in sports and daily activities.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lifting the leg too high, causing the hips to rotate. Keep your hips parallel to the floor.
  • ! Failing to engage the abdominal muscles, which can lead to an arched back.
  • ! Performing the movement too quickly. Focus on the quality of the movement, not the speed.

Main Muscles

The primary focus is on the gluteus maximus, the largest muscle in your glutes. The hamstrings and lower back are also lightly trained secondarily.

Possible Alternatives

  • Add ankle weights for extra resistance.
  • Try the straight-leg donkey kick for a variation that places more emphasis on the hamstrings.
  • Use a resistance band around your thighs for an extra challenge.
