Couch Squats
The Couch Squat is a fantastic exercise that you can do with nothing more than your own couch at home. This exercise is ideal for beginners or for days when you cannot go to the gym. It not only helps you build strength, but also improves your posture and stability by using an everyday piece of furniture.
Execution:
-
1
Begin by standing directly in front of your couch with your feet shoulder-width apart.
-
2
Extend your arms in front of you for balance.
-
3
Slowly bend your knees and hips as if you were going to sit down, until your buttocks lightly touch the couch.
-
4
Then push yourself back up to the starting position. Make sure your heels remain firmly on the floor throughout the entire movement.
Benefits:
- Improved lower-body strength.
- Increased flexibility in the hips and knees.
- Improved balance and coordination.
- Convenient for home workouts without additional equipment.
Common Mistakes:
- ! Not lowering far enough: Try to lightly touch the couch with your buttocks each time.
- ! Lifting your heels: Keep your heels firmly on the floor to activate the correct muscles.
- ! Performing it too quickly: Perform the movement in a controlled manner for maximum effectiveness.
Main Muscles:
The Couch Squat primarily targets the quadriceps (front of the thighs), but the glutes, hamstrings (back of the thighs), and core are also trained for balanced strength development.
Possible Alternatives:
- To increase the intensity, you can wear a weighted vest or hold dumbbells during the exercise.
- For lower intensity or if you are a beginner, try performing the movement more slowly or use a higher couch/seat surface.
