Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a standing position with your legs approximately one leg-length apart.
  2. 2
Turn your right foot outward and your left foot slightly inward.
  3. 3
Inhale and raise your arms out to the sides to shoulder height, parallel to the ground, with your palms facing downward.
  4. 4
As you exhale, bend your right knee so that your thigh becomes parallel to the ground. Make sure your knee does not extend past your ankle.
  5. 5
Turn your head to the right and look over your right hand.
  6. 6
Hold this position while breathing deeply in and out. Aim for 30 seconds to one minute.
  7. 7
To leave the pose, inhale and straighten your right leg. Lower your arms and return to the starting position. Repeat on the other side.

Benefits

In addition to muscle strengthening and improved balance, Warrior Pose helps increase your endurance and concentration. It is also a great way to reduce stress and discover your inner strength.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Allowing the knee to extend too far past the ankle, which can put pressure on the knee.
  • ! Not bending the front knee enough, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise.
  • ! Failing to keep the back straight, which can lead to tension in the back.

Important Muscles

Warrior Pose targets the quadriceps, hamstrings, and calves in your legs, as well as the muscles in your shoulders and arms. Additionally, your core is strengthened by the stability required to maintain the pose.

Possible Alternatives

For a less intensive variation, you can reduce the knee bend. If you want to increase the intensity, try Warrior III pose, in which you lean forward and lift one leg backward while keeping your body and the rear leg in a straight line.
