  • Spider Plank

Introduction: The Spider Plank is a dynamic variation of the traditional plank that not only improves your core stability but also increases the flexibility and strength of your hips. This exercise incorporates leg movement, making it a challenging addition to your core routine.

Execution: Begin in a standard plank position with your hands directly under your shoulders and your body in a straight line from your head to your heels. Draw your right knee toward your right elbow while keeping your core tight. Return to the starting position and repeat with your left knee toward your left elbow. Alternate for multiple repetitions.

Target Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the abdominal muscles, obliques, and lower back muscles. The shoulders, chest, and hip flexors are also trained.

Benefits: The Spider Plank helps improve overall core stability, increases metabolic activity through the added movement, and improves coordination. It may also help increase flexibility in the hips.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is allowing the hips to sag, which can lead to back pain. Make sure your body remains in a straight line throughout the exercise. Also avoid moving your legs too quickly; the movement should be controlled.

Possible Alternatives: To lower the intensity, you can perform the Spider Plank with your knees on the ground. For higher intensity, you can add a leg lift each time you bring your knee toward your elbow, or increase the speed of the leg movements.
