Execution:

  1. 1
Begin with the barbell on the floor and stand in a squat position with your feet shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Grip the barbell with a wide grip and keep your back straight and chest up.
  3. 3
Lift the barbell by extending your hips and knees while keeping the barbell close to your body.
  4. 4
Once the barbell passes your thighs, accelerate the movement and bring your body under the barbell by quickly dropping into a deep squat.
  5. 5
Catch the barbell overhead with your arms extended while remaining in the squat position.
  6. 6
Stand up from the squat position while holding the barbell overhead.
  7. 7
Lower the barbell back to the floor in a controlled manner and prepare for the next repetition.

Benefits:

The snatch offers a wide range of benefits, including improved functional strength, better body composition through high calorie expenditure, and improved performance in sports that require explosive strength. It also improves coordination and athletic skills.

Common Mistakes:

  • ! Keeping the barbell too far from your body during the lift, which can lead to unnecessary strain on your lower back.
  • ! Diving under the barbell too quickly without first generating sufficient speed and power.
  • ! Bending the arms too early, which reduces the efficiency of the lift.

Key Muscles:

  • Quadriceps
  • Hamstrings
  • Glutes
  • Trapezius
  • Deltoids
  • Core

Possible Alternatives:

If you are new to the snatch or want to adjust the intensity, you can start with a dumbbell snatch or a kettlebell snatch. These variations require less technique and are easier to learn. You can also perform power snatches, in which you lift the barbell overhead without dropping into a full squat.
