  • Copenhagen Plank

Introduction: The Copenhagen Plank is a dynamic exercise that focuses on strengthening the obliques and adductors. This exercise offers a unique challenge because it not only improves your core stability but also promotes lower-body strength and coordination.

Execution: Begin by placing your top leg on an elevated surface such as a bench or a sturdy box. Keep your bottom leg suspended. Support yourself on your forearm, positioned directly under your shoulder. Lift your hips so that your body forms a straight line from your head to your feet. Hold this position while keeping your core engaged. Try to hold the position for 20 to 30 seconds, then switch sides.

Primary Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the obliques and adductors. The glute muscles and shoulder muscles are also engaged for stability.

Benefits: The Copenhagen Plank helps improve overall core stability and strengthens muscles that are often overlooked in traditional plank exercises. It also helps improve balance and functional strength, which is especially useful for athletes.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is allowing the hips to sag, which reduces the effectiveness of the exercise and can lead to back problems. Make sure your body remains in a straight line and your core is properly engaged. Also avoid placing too much pressure on your supporting arm.

Possible Alternatives: If the standard Copenhagen Plank is too challenging, you can begin by resting your bottom leg on the floor. For an additional challenge, you can wear a weighted vest or raise and lower your top leg during the exercise.
