Execution

  1. 1
Find a bench and sit down with a dumbbell in each hand. Keep your feet flat on the floor and your back straight.
  2. 2
Place your forearms on your thighs with your palms facing upward while holding the dumbbells. Make sure your wrists hang just beyond your knees.
  3. 3
Inhale and slowly bend your wrists downward as far as comfortable while keeping the rest of your arm still.
  4. 4
Exhale and curl your wrists back to the starting position by lifting the dumbbells upward. Focus on using your wrist flexors to perform the movement.
  5. 5
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves grip strength, which is useful for daily activities and other strength exercises.
  • Increases wrist stability, which may reduce the risk of injuries.
  • Helps develop balanced muscle growth in the forearms.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving the forearms instead of only the wrists.
  • ! Performing the exercise too quickly, which can lead to less effective muscle activation and an increased risk of injuries.
  • ! Using too much weight, which causes technique to deteriorate.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the wrist flexors, which are located on the inner side of the forearms. It also helps strengthen the grip through the involvement of the small muscles in the hand.

Possible Alternatives

  • For a lighter variation, you can perform the exercise without weights or with a lighter dumbbell.
  • To increase the intensity, try the exercise with a barbell or add more weight to the dumbbells.
  • Alternatively, you can also train the wrist extensors by turning your palms downward and reversing the movement.
