Execution

  1. 1
Lie flat on your stomach on a mat, with your arms extended in front of you and your legs straight behind you.
  2. 2
Lift your right arm and left leg simultaneously a few centimeters off the ground. Keep your neck neutral by looking at the ground.
  3. 3
Now switch sides, lifting your left arm and right leg. This completes one repetition.
  4. 4
Continue repeating this alternating movement while maintaining a steady and controlled pace.

Benefits

This exercise helps strengthen the postural muscles, which can lead to better posture and less back pain. It is also great for improving the coordination and endurance of your whole body.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movements too quickly. Focus on quality over quantity.
  • ! Bending your neck too much. Keep your neck in a neutral position by looking at the ground.
  • ! Not lifting your arms and legs high enough. Try to raise them a few centimeters off the ground for maximum effectiveness.

Primary Muscles

The Swimmers exercise primarily targets the back muscles, including the erector spinae that runs along your spine. Your glutes, shoulders, and hamstrings are also trained.

Possible Alternatives

To adjust the intensity of the Swimmers exercise, you can add ankle or wrist weights. Another variation is increasing the speed or number of repetitions. For beginners, starting with smaller movements can help gradually build strength.
