Execution

  1. 1
Begin by placing a barbell across your upper back, not your neck. Make sure your feet are shoulder-width apart.
  2. 2
Inhale, keep your back straight, and slowly bend forward at your hips. Your knees may be slightly bent.
  3. 3
Move forward until your torso is almost parallel to the floor, or as far as is comfortable for you.
  4. 4
Exhale and return to the starting position by driving your hips forward.

Benefits

Good Mornings help build strength in the lower back, which is essential for almost every form of lifting and sports. They also improve your posture and may help reduce back pain by strengthening the lower back muscles.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Going too heavy: Start light to ensure proper form.
  • ! Rounding your back: Keep your back straight at all times to prevent injuries.
  • ! Going too deep: Bend forward only to a point that is comfortable and allows you to maintain control.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the erector spinae in your lower back, the hamstrings, and the glutes. The adductors and the muscles around your waist are also trained secondarily.

Possible Alternatives

If the Barbell Good Mornings are too challenging, try the exercise without weight or with a resistance band. For more challenge, gradually increase the weight or add a pause at the bottom of the movement.
