  • Hollow Hold

The Hollow Hold is a powerful core-stability exercise that helps you develop a strong and stable torso. This exercise is unique because it requires you to engage your abdominal muscles intensely while your body is in an extended position, which contributes to better posture and performance in other exercises.

Execution:

  1. Lie on your back with your arms extended overhead and your legs straight.
  2. Engage your abdominal muscles and lift your shoulders and legs off the ground. Your lower back should remain flat on the ground.
  3. Extend your arms and legs as far as possible and hold this position. Make sure your lower back does not lift off the ground.
  4. Hold this position for the desired amount of time, starting at 20 seconds and building up as you get stronger.
  5. Slowly and with control lower yourself back to the starting position.

Main Muscles:

  • Rectus abdominis
  • Transversus abdominis
  • Hip flexors

Benefits:

  • Improves core stability
  • Helps prevent back pain
  • Improves posture
  • Strengthens the abdominal muscles and hip flexors

Common Mistakes:

  • Lifting the lower back off the ground - keep your core engaged to prevent this.
  • Holding your breath - continue breathing during the exercise.
  • Progressing too quickly in duration - start with short sets and build up gradually.

Possible Alternatives:

  • If the standard Hollow Hold is too challenging, start with one leg on the ground and alternate.
  • To increase the intensity, you can hold weights in your hands or add leg movements.
