Control Balance
The Control Balance is an advanced Pilates exercise that focuses on balance, flexibility, and strength. This exercise helps improve body control and stability through a unique combination of movements that challenge both the mind and body.
Execution
-
1
Lie on your back with your arms by your sides and your legs straight up toward the ceiling.
-
2
Use your abdominal muscles to lift your hips off the floor and bring your legs over your head.
-
3
Place your hands on your lower back for support, with your elbows close together.
-
4
Shift your weight onto your shoulders and keep your neck long without compressing it.
-
5
Extend one leg toward the ceiling while the other leg moves toward your face. Hold this position briefly.
-
6
Switch legs in a controlled movement, as if balancing in the air.
-
7
Repeat the leg switches for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits
The Control Balance improves your balance, strengthens the core, increases flexibility in the spine and legs, and improves coordination. It is also an excellent exercise for improving concentration and breathing control.
Common Mistakes
- ! Moving too quickly: Focus on slow, controlled movements to get the most out of the exercise.
- ! Putting too much pressure on the neck: Make sure your shoulders bear the weight, not your neck.
- ! Not keeping the back straight: Keep your back as straight as possible to activate the correct muscles and prevent injuries.
Main Muscles
This exercise targets the abdominal muscles, particularly the deep core muscles, the back muscles, the hamstrings, and the gluteal muscles. The shoulders and arms are also engaged for stability.
Possible Alternatives
If the Control Balance is too challenging, first try the Pilates rollover or leg lifts to build strength and flexibility. For more challenge, you can add leg movements or extend the time you remain in the balance position.
