Really Basic-Fit? A special zone in the gym where people can take selfies? With special lighting, wind machines, and water sprayers? Tell me it’s not true.
Shamelessly tapping into the vanity of attention-seeking fitness fanatics who do anything for likes? That’s darn well my job! It’s pure bread theft at the expense of photographers like me, who specialize in fitness photography.

Is this revenge for the articles I’ve written about Basic-Fit? I’ve just returned to Basic-Fit. Only because I’m now able to avoid the orange zoo in the evenings by training very early in the morning. Do I have to cancel my subscription again? I’m not planning on getting annoyed at every workout again. Now at potential customers I see entering such a selfie zone instead of my studio.
Cobbler, stick to your last. You keep filling your boxes with weights while I continue to strive for the most beautiful picture on social media. Forget about that Selfie Zone. Rather, set up an extra cable rack.
April Fools’ joke?
The only silver lining is the timing of the announcement. The colleague who pointed this out to me managed to prevent my impending rage attack. “It’s probably an April Fools’ joke,” he said.
I certainly won’t reward Basic-Fit with this potential attack on the fitness photographer by giving this action attention among our readers. The only reason I’m doing this is to confirm as soon as possible that it’s actually a joke. “Why don’t you ask Basic-Fit directly?” you might ask. Because I’d like to get the answer faster than ‘within 4 weeks to never’. That’s at least the response time I’m used to from Basic-Fit’s customer service.
My appeal is therefore to people who train at the Basic-Fit on Stadhouderskade in Amsterdam. From today, you could be the first to visit the ‘Selfie Zone’. Tell me it’s not true. Please!
