Hourly rate

Calculate the hourly rate for coaches

Calculate the hourly rate your practice needs. You fill in four things: the monthly income you want, your monthly costs, the hours you can bill per week and the number of working weeks in a year. The result is your hourly rate.

Calculate hourly rate

Starting value. Change it.

Result

58.70 euros per hour

What you fill in

Desired monthly income. The amount you want to keep for yourself per month.

Monthly costs. What your practice costs you per month. That differs per coach. One person fills in software and travel costs, another also room hire. Fill in your amount.

Billable hours per week. Only the hours you invoice to a client. Preparation, administration and travel time do not count, unless you do charge those hours.

Working weeks per year. The number of weeks in which you work this number of hours. Leave out weeks you do not work.

The calculation

Add the desired monthly income and the monthly costs. That amount is what the practice needs to bring in per month. Times 12 is the amount for the whole year.

(monthly income + monthly costs) × 12 / (billable hours per week × working weeks per year)

Then multiply the billable hours per week by the working weeks per year. You spread the yearly amount over those hours.

Divide the yearly amount by those hours. What comes out is your hourly rate.

The result

The result is an hourly rate: the amount per billable hour.

A coach sets the rate, a client does not.

The number is not a score. It does not compare you with another coach. It only covers the income and the costs you filled in, spread over the hours you filled in.

Nothing is added on top of those four fields. If you want to see a different rate, change a field. More billable hours give a lower hourly rate with the same income and the same costs. A higher monthly income or higher monthly costs give a higher hourly rate.
