  6. 6
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions, then switch sides.

Benefits

  • Effectively strengthens the back muscles and improves posture.
  • Helps prevent back and shoulder injuries.
  • Improves grip strength.
  • Can correct asymmetries in muscle development by training each side separately.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Too much weight: This can lead to poor form and possible injuries. Start with a lighter weight and gradually increase it.
  • ! Not keeping your back straight: Make sure your back is straight and your core is braced to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise and prevent injuries.
  • ! Moving your elbow too far away from your body: This reduces the effectiveness for the target muscles and can lead to shoulder problems.

Target Muscles

The Dumbbell Row primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, but also trains the trapezius, rhomboids, and lower back muscles. The biceps and the muscles around the shoulder blades are also engaged.

Possible Alternatives

  • Seated Row: For those who want to emphasize the mid-back and place less stress on the lower back.
  • Inverted Row: A bodyweight exercise that is a good option for beginners or if you do not have access to dumbbells.
  • Barbell Row: For those who want to increase the intensity and train both sides of the back simultaneously.
