Execution

  1. 1
Begin in a position with your knees slightly bent and your feet hip-width apart.
  2. 2
Jump to the right with your right foot and land softly on your right foot while crossing your left leg behind your right leg and extending your left hand in front of you.
  3. 3
Keep your knees slightly bent during the landing to absorb the impact.
  4. 4
Then jump to the left by pushing off with your right foot, and repeat the movement in the opposite direction.
  5. 5
Continue repeating these side-to-side skating movements for the desired time or number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Improves lateral mobility and flexibility.
  • Raises the heart rate, contributing to an effective cardio workout.
  • Strengthens the muscles around the knees and ankles, which may help prevent injuries.
  • Helps develop better balance and coordination.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Not landing deeply enough: Make sure your knees are bent during the landing to reduce the impact and train the muscles more effectively.
  • ! Going too fast: Focus on the quality of the movement rather than the speed, especially if you are just starting.
  • ! Losing balance: If you have difficulty balancing, reduce the distance of your jumps until you have developed more stability.

Primary Muscles

The Skater exercise primarily targets the glutes, hamstrings, quadriceps, and the stabilizing muscles around the hips and ankles. The core muscles are also engaged for balance and stability.

Possible Alternatives

  • To lower the intensity, make the jumps smaller or perform the movement without jumping by simply stepping side to side.
  • For higher intensity, you can wear a weighted vest or add wrist weights to increase the resistance.
  • Try performing the exercise on a soft surface such as grass or a mat to reduce the impact on your joints.
