The leg press is a popular strength exercise that targets the lower body. It is an effective way to strengthen the muscles in your legs and glutes without the load of free weights.

  • Leg Press

Execution

  1. 1
Adjust the seat of the leg press machine so that your knees are almost fully extended but still slightly bent.
  2. 2
Sit on the machine and place your feet shoulder-width apart on the platform.
  3. 3
Release the safety handles and bend your knees to allow the weight to come toward you.
  4. 4
Push the platform away from you by extending your legs.
  5. 5
Make sure you do not fully extend your legs to prevent injuries.
  6. 6
Slowly and under control, allow the weight to return to the starting position.

Benefits

  • Increases the strength and size of the leg muscles.
  • Improves performance in other sports and daily activities.
  • Places less stress on the back than traditional squats.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Using too much weight, causing the exercise to be performed incorrectly.
  • ! Allowing the knees to cave inward or move outward too far during the exercise.
  • ! Fully extending the legs, which can lead to knee injuries.

Main Muscles

The leg press primarily trains the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and calves.

Possible Alternatives

  • Single-leg leg press: Perform the exercise with one leg to focus more on individual leg strength.
  • Change your foot position on the platform to emphasize different parts of the leg muscles.
  • Use a lower weight setting and increase the number of repetitions for more endurance-focused training.
