Execution

  1. 1
Begin standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand.
  2. 2
Place the dumbbells on your shoulders, with your elbows pointing forward.
  3. 3
Inhale and bend your knees while pushing your hips back, as if you are sitting down on a chair.
  4. 4
Make sure your chest stays lifted and your back remains straight throughout the movement.
  5. 5
Lower yourself until your thighs are parallel to the floor, or as low as is comfortable for you.
  6. 6
Exhale and push yourself back to the starting position by pressing your heels into the floor.

Benefits

The position of the dumbbells places an additional challenge on your core muscles to stabilize your body, resulting in a strong and stable torso. This exercise also helps improve your posture and balance, and may contribute to better performance in other sports and daily activities.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Rounded back: Make sure your back remains straight throughout the entire exercise to prevent injuries.
  • ! Leaning too far forward: This can lead to unnecessary pressure on your knees. Keep your chest lifted and focus on pushing your hips back.
  • ! Lowering too quickly: Perform the movement in a controlled manner to train the muscles effectively and avoid injuries.

Targeted Muscles

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps (front of the thighs), but also trains the glutes, hamstrings (back of the thighs), calves, and core muscles for stability.

Possible Alternatives

If you want to adjust the intensity, you can vary the weight of the dumbbells. For beginners, it may be useful to start with lighter weights or even without weights to practice proper form. Advanced users can increase the weight or switch to a barbell for an additional challenge.
