Execution

  1. 1
Begin by holding a dumbbell in each hand, with your arms at your sides.
  2. 2
    Place your feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. 3
Slowly lean backward while bending your knees and keeping your upper body straight. The dumbbells help you maintain your balance.

  5. 5
Push yourself back up to the starting position by contracting your quadriceps.
  6. 6
Repeat for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Strengthens and defines the quadriceps.
  • Improves balance and coordination.
  • Increases flexibility in the knees and hips.
  • Provides a challenging variation of the traditional squat.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering or standing up too quickly: Move in a controlled manner to train the muscles effectively and prevent injuries.
  • ! Leaning too far backward: This can lead to excessive stress on the knees. Make sure you find a comfortable angle.
  • ! Allowing the knees to travel too far forward: This can put pressure on the knees. Keep your knees aligned with your feet.

Muscles Worked

This exercise primarily targets the quadriceps, but the glutes, hamstrings, and calves also receive a good workout. In addition, your core and stabilizing muscles are engaged to help you maintain your balance.

Possible Alternatives

  • Without weights: For beginners, performing the exercise without dumbbells can already be challenging.
  • With a resistance band: For additional resistance without dumbbells, try placing a resistance band around your thighs.
  • Wall Sissy Squat: For additional support, you can also perform this exercise against a wall.
