Execution

  1. 1
Begin standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, holding a dumbbell in each hand at shoulder height, with your palms facing each other.

  3. 3
Drive yourself explosively upward from the squat position while simultaneously pressing the dumbbells overhead.
  4. 4
Slowly return the dumbbells to shoulder height as you lower back into the squat position for the next repetition.

Benefits

  • Improves functional strength by mimicking everyday movements.
  • Increases calorie burn by working multiple muscle groups simultaneously.
  • Improves coordination and balance through the combination of a lower-body and upper-body exercise.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving through the exercise too quickly: Focus on movement quality rather than speed.
  • ! Arching your back during the squat: Keep your back straight and chest up to prevent injuries.
  • ! Allowing the knees to move too far forward: Make sure your knees do not extend past your toes during the squat.

Main Muscles

This exercise targets a wide range of muscle groups, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, lower back, shoulders, and triceps.

Possible Alternatives

  • If the exercise is too intense, try performing the squat or the shoulder press separately.
  • For an extra challenge, increase the weight of the dumbbells or add a pause at the bottom of the squat.
  • Use a kettlebell instead of dumbbells for a different grip and weight distribution.
