Diagonal Jumps
Diagonal Jumps are a dynamic exercise that helps improve your coordination, speed, and strength. This exercise is unique because it challenges both your lower and upper body while also working on your explosiveness and stability.
Execution:
-
1
Begin in a standing position with your feet hip-width apart.
-
2
Bend your knees slightly and jump diagonally forward and to the right.
-
3
Land softly on your feet with a slight bend in your knees to absorb the impact.
-
4
Immediately jump diagonally again, but this time forward and to the left.
-
5
Continue alternating between right and left for the desired number of repetitions.
Benefits:
- Improved coordination and balance.
- Increased explosive strength and speed.
- Strengthening of the lower- and upper-body muscles.
- Increased heart rate, which contributes to fat burning.
Common Mistakes:
- ! Not bending deeply enough upon landing, which can increase the impact on your joints.
- ! Trying to go too fast, causing form and technique to deteriorate.
- ! Not actively using the arms to increase jumping power.
Main Muscles:
Diagonal Jumps target your quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and calves. Your core and stabilizing muscles are also activated to maintain your balance during the jumps.
Possible Alternatives:
- To reduce the intensity, step diagonally instead of jumping.
- For higher intensity, you can wear a weighted vest or add a knee drive to each jump.
- If jumping is not possible, try diagonal lunges for a similar workout of the leg muscles.
