Benefits

This exercise offers several benefits. It not only improves your balance and coordination but also strengthens the muscles of your lower body. Using a counterweight also helps maintain good posture during the exercise.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Lowering too quickly: Take your time to perform the movement in a controlled manner.
  • ! Incorrect posture: Make sure your back remains straight and your knee does not move past your toes.
  • ! Counterweight that is too heavy: Start with a light weight to ensure proper form.

Primary Muscles

The Counterbalanced Skater Squat primarily targets the quadriceps and gluteal muscles. The hamstrings and core muscles are also engaged for stability.

Possible Alternatives

If the Counterbalanced Skater Squat is too challenging, you can start with a regular skater squat without a counterweight. For more of a challenge, you can increase the counterweight or add an ankle weight to the leg you lift behind you.
