Execution

  1. 1
Begin with your feet positioned wider than shoulder-width apart and your arms extended horizontally.
  2. 2
Turn one of your feet outward and hinge at the hips to lower your upper body toward the side of the turned-out foot.
  3. 3
As you lower yourself, keep one arm extended straight upward toward the ceiling and the other arm downward toward the foot.
  4. 4
Ensure that your upper body is parallel to your extended leg.
  5. 5
Slowly return to the starting position and repeat the movement on the other side.

Benefits

  • Improves the mobility and flexibility of the hips and spine.
  • Strengthens the core, contributing to better posture and less back pain.
  • Helps develop balance and coordination by stabilizing the body during the exercise.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Performing the movement too quickly: Take the time to perform each movement in a controlled manner.
  • ! Not fully turning the foot: Make sure your foot is properly turned outward to maintain the correct position.
  • ! Not lowering the hips enough: Try to lower your hips as far as possible to experience the full benefits of the exercise.

Primary Muscles

This exercise primarily works the obliques, deltoids, hamstrings, and the muscles surrounding the spine. It is an excellent way to train multiple muscle groups simultaneously.

Possible Alternatives

  • To increase the intensity, you can hold a kettlebell or dumbbell in the hand pointing toward the ceiling.
  • For beginners, it may be useful to practice the movement without weight first to master the correct form.
  • If the standard windmill is too challenging, try limiting the movement to the point where you feel comfortable.
