Benefits:

Upward-Facing Dog offers several benefits. It helps strengthen the spine, improve posture, and relieve stress and tension in the lower back. In addition, this exercise stimulates the organs in the abdomen, which may support digestion.

Common Mistakes:

  • ! Putting too much pressure on the wrists: Make sure you spread your hands properly and distribute the pressure evenly.
  • ! Shrugging the shoulders: Keep your shoulders low and away from your ears to avoid tension.
  • ! Holding the hips too high or too low: Your body should form a straight line from your head to your feet.

Primary Muscles:

This exercise primarily targets the back muscles, especially the erector spinae that runs along your spine. Your triceps, deltoids, and shoulder muscles are also trained. In addition, it provides a good stretch for your abdominal muscles and hip flexors.

Possible Alternatives:

If Upward-Facing Dog is too intense, you can start with Cobra Pose, keeping your elbows bent and your hips on the floor. For more of a challenge, try Upward-Facing Dog with one leg lifted to increase the intensity and further improve balance and strength.
