Good Morning with Resistance Band
The Good Morning with a resistance band is an effective exercise that targets strengthening your lower back, hamstrings, and glutes. This variation provides unique resistance that helps improve your posture and flexibility while minimizing the risk of injury.
Execution
-
1
Stand with both feet shoulder-width apart on the resistance band and hold the other side of the band with both hands at shoulder height.
-
2
Keep your knees slightly bent and your back straight.
-
3
Slowly hinge forward from your hips while keeping your back straight, as if you were bowing.
-
4
Continue until your upper body is almost parallel to the floor, or as far as is comfortable for you.
-
5
Slowly return to the starting position by driving your hips forward.
Benefits
- Improves lower-back strength and stability.
- Increases flexibility in the hamstrings and lower back.
- Provides a safe way to train the posterior chain, which helps prevent injuries.
- Can be performed anywhere thanks to the portable nature of the resistance band.
Common Mistakes
- ! Rounded back: Keep your back straight throughout the entire movement to prevent injuries.
- ! Moving too quickly: Perform the movement slowly and under control for maximum effectiveness.
- ! Bending too far: Do not bend farther than your flexibility allows, as this can lead to overuse.
Target Muscles
This exercise primarily targets the erector spinae in your lower back, the hamstrings at the back of your thighs, and the gluteus maximus in your glutes.
Possible Alternatives
- To increase the intensity, you can use a heavier resistance band.
- For beginners, the exercise can be simplified by bending less far forward.
- Alternatively, the Good Morning can also be performed with a barbell for a different form of resistance.
