Fire Hydrant Left

  • Fire Hydrant Left
  • Fire Hydrant Left

Introduction: The Fire Hydrant Left exercise is an excellent way to strengthen your hips and glutes. This exercise also helps improve your balance and stability.

Execution: Start on your hands and knees with your hands directly under your shoulders and your knees under your hips. Keep your back straight and your gaze directed downward. Lift your left leg out to the side and upward while keeping your knee bent, as if imitating a dog urinating on a fire hydrant. Lift your leg as high as possible without rotating your hips. Hold this position briefly, then slowly and with control lower your leg back to the starting position.

Primary Muscles: This exercise primarily targets the gluteus medius and minimus in your glutes, as well as the hip abductors.

Benefits: Regularly performing Fire Hydrants can help strengthen the muscles around your hips, leading to better hip mobility and a reduced risk of injury. It may also help shape and tone your glutes.

Common Mistakes: A common mistake is rotating the hips while performing the exercise. Make sure your hips remain parallel to the floor to maximize the effectiveness of the exercise. Also avoid using momentum instead of muscle strength to lift your leg.

Possible Alternatives: If you want to increase the intensity of the exercise, you can place a resistance band around your thighs. For a less intensive variation, you can make the movement smaller or use more support by leaning against a wall.
