Execution

  1. 1
Lie on your back with your arms extended overhead and your legs straight.
  2. 2
Brace your abdominal muscles and lift your shoulders and legs off the floor. Your lower back must remain in continuous contact with the floor.
  3. 3
Begin rocking by lightly shifting your weight from your shoulders to your hips without letting your feet or hands touch the floor.
  4. 4
Keep the movement controlled and your core constantly braced.
  5. 5
Perform this for multiple repetitions, depending on your fitness level.

Benefits

This exercise helps improve your overall core strength, which is essential for better performance in nearly every sport and daily activity. It also increases your balance and stability.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Not keeping your back flat on the floor, which can lead to back pain.
  • ! Moving too quickly, causing you to lose control of the movement.
  • ! Not keeping your abdominal muscles continuously engaged during the exercise.

Primary Muscles

The Hollow Rock primarily trains the rectus abdominis, the obliques, and the deep transverse abdominal muscles. Your shoulders and hips are also engaged lightly during the exercise.

Possible Alternatives

If the Hollow Rock is too challenging, you can start with the Hollow Hold, in which you remain in the starting position without rocking. For more of a challenge, you can add weights to your hands or feet.
