Execution

  1. 1
Sit on the machine with your feet on the platform and your knees under the pad. Make sure the pad rests comfortably on your thighs.
  2. 2
Place the balls of your feet on the lower part of the platform, with your heels free to move.
  3. 3
Push the weight upward by pressing down through your toes and contracting your calf muscles. Make sure your movement is controlled.
  4. 4
Slowly return the weight to the starting position by lowering your heels below the level of the platform for a full stretch.
  5. 5
Repeat the movement for the desired number of repetitions.

Benefits

  • Isolation of the calf muscles for targeted training.
  • Improved muscle definition and volume.
  • Increased flexibility and range of motion of the ankle.
  • Prevention of calf injuries by strengthening the muscles.

Common Mistakes

  • ! Moving the weights too quickly: Use a controlled movement to achieve maximum muscle activation.
  • ! Not stretching fully: Make sure your heels move as far down as possible for a full stretch of the calf muscles.
  • ! Using too much weight: Start with a lighter weight to ensure proper form and prevent injuries.

Key Muscles

The primary focus of the Seated Calf Machine is the calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus). This exercise helps build mass and strength in this specific muscle group.

Possible Alternatives

  • Standing Calf Raises: For those who also want to train the stabilizing muscles around the ankles and lower legs.
  • Dumbbell Calf Raises: A good option if you do not have access to a Seated Calf Machine.
  • Leg Press Calf Raises: An alternative that also isolates the calf muscles but offers a different angle.
